Student killed as stone-laden truck overturns onto house in Narail
A student was killed and her younger sister injured after a stone-laden truck overturned onto their house in Lohagara upazila, Narail, late on Sunday night, July 5.
The deceased was identified as Shamima Akhter, 17, an eighth-grade student at Naldi BSS Secondary School. She was the daughter of Hafizar Mollah, a grocery trader, and was asleep in the room with her younger sister, Mitu Khanam, 13, when the accident occurred.
According to family and local sources, the truck was carrying stones for an under-construction bridge in Brahman Danga, Lohagara upazila. Around midnight, the driver lost his way and turned onto a narrow road before the truck overturned, collapsing onto the house.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the noise and, after a long effort, recovered Shamima's body and the injured Mitu from under the stones. Mitu was taken to Narail District Hospital for treatment.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahim said police visited the scene. The driver fled after the incident. The body has been sent to the district hospital for autopsy. No case has been filed yet.
