Student protestors across the country burn Prothom Alo, Daily Star
Students of various universities including Dhaka University, Rangpur Begum Rokeya University and Noakhali University of Science and Technology called for boycotting Prothom Alo and Daily Star for spreading false, misleading and fabricated news.
Students of Dhaka University called for a boycott of two newspapers, Prothom Alo and Daily Star. On Thursday (October 31), two newspapers were seen burning at the gate of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall of the University. At that time they raised various slogans against Prothom Alo and Daily Star.
Apart from the Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, the video footage of these two newsapers being burnt in different halls of the university has spread on social media. Many students wrote against the two newspapers in a Facebook group called 'Dhaka University Students' Sangsad' calling for a boycott.
Ahsan Habib Imroz, a student of the 2019-20 session of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, said that Prothom Alo and Daily Star newspapers have been spreading false, misleading and fabricated news on various sensitive issues for a long time. Since its inception, the two newspapers have been very blatantly supporting the nefarious purposes of the Awami ruling group and the intelligence agencies of the neighboring countries.
He said that even in the July coup, they justified the genocide in several news columns. Even in the post-coup era, front page advertisements for Indian motorbike 'Royal Enfield' made headlines, ignoring issues of national importance. On the other hand, they have served provocative news on the minority issue of Chattogram. As a result, there has been considerable criticism of the two newspapers on social media even after the coup. But they did not make any change in their policy keeping in mind the view of public opinion. They are constantly providing provocative news on the prescription of intelligence agencies of neighboring countries on fallen fascism and various issues.
Meanwhile students of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University also called for a boycott by burning Prothom Alo and Daily Star newspapers.
On Friday (November 1) at around 6:30 pm, two newspapers were set on fire at the main gate of the university. During this time they raised various slogans against Prothom Alo and Daily Star.
University student Fahim said that Daily Star and Prothom Alo could not accept the revolution that took place in July-August. They are trying to rehabilitate the fascists again and again by spreading negative news. They still do not consider Chhatra League as a banned organisation.
Students of Noakhali University of Science and Technology also called for a boycott by burning the two national dailies Prothom Alo and Daily Star. Students of different departments formed a human chain in front of Shaheed Minar of the university at 9.30 on Friday night. During the time they protested by burning two newspapers by chanting various slogans.
