Students from 30 colleges protest violence against women at Shahbagh
Students from 30 colleges in the capital have taken up
positions at Shahbagh demanding maximum punishment for those guilty of
violence, rape and torture against women.
They took up positions in front of the Shahbagh National
Museum from 11:30 am on Tuesday (March 11) with small processions.
The students present said that we had announced the Shahbagh
blockade to protest the oppression of women. But considering the suffering of
the people during Ramadan, this programme has been withdrawn. However, instead of
the blockade programme, the sit-in program will continue until the evening on
the empty road in front of the Shahbagh National Museum.
They also said that students from Viqarunnesa Noon School and College, Bir Shrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College, Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Public College, Dhaka City College, Dhanmondi Ideal College, Dhaka Residential Model College, Notre Dame College, Dhaka College, Government Science College, Government Mohammadpur Model School and College, Lalbagh Model College, Will's Little Flower School and College, Jalsiri Cantonment College, Azimpur Government Girls School and College, Dhaka Imperial College, Sheikh Borhanuddin Post Graduate College, Engineering University School and College, Sabujbagh Government College, Mohammadpur Central College, Hamdard College participated in today's program.
In addition, students from 30 colleges including Motijheel
Ideal School and College, Navy College, St. Joseph School and College, BF
Shaheen Dhaka, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Udayan Higher
Secondary School, Adamjee Cantonment College, Government Laboratory High School
will participate in the program, they said.
On the other hand, law enforcement agencies have taken a cautious stance in Shahbagh surrounding the students' program. Additional police personnel have been deployed throughout the area.
