Students protest demanding head teacher's resignation over indecent proposal
Allegations have been raised against Abdul Samad, head teacher of Monigram High School in Bagha upazila, Rajshahi, for making an indecent proposal to a tenth-grade student. In protest, students of the school took out a rally beating drums, demanding the teacher's resignation and a fair trial.
The protest rally was suddenly organised by students on Sunday, August 9, and the matter quickly spread on social media.
Students and locals alleged that head teacher Abdul Samad had been behaving inappropriately with female students for a long time. He would allegedly touch students' bodies inappropriately on various occasions. Eventually, he was accused of making an indecent proposal to a tenth-grade student.
After the incident became known, anger spread among the students. They took out a protest rally demanding action against the accused teacher and his resignation.
Later, a discussion meeting was organised at the school, attended by Abu Sayeed Chand, MP for Charghat-Bagha constituency, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abu Zafar, teachers, students, parents and local political leaders.
At the meeting, the victim, students and parents demanded a proper investigation and legal action against the accused teacher.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abu Zafar said discussions have been held with the MP and necessary instructions have been given. The accused head teacher has expressed his willingness to resign voluntarily.
MP Abu Sayeed Chand said no compromise will be made with injustice. However, he said action will be taken against the accused teacher based on proper evidence of the complaint.
Tension still prevails in the school and surrounding areas following the incident. The accused head teacher Abdul Samad could not be reached for immediate comment.
