Students threaten blockade in 16 districts over Rangpur advisor issue
Students from Rangpur have threatened an indefinite blockade in 16 northern districts starting Thursday if the government does not appoint an advisor from the Rangpur division within three days.
The announcement was made at a press conference around 7:30 pm on Sunday (November 18), at a community center in the city.
Alamgir Nayan, district coordinator of the National Citizens Committee, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the interim government's advisory council for excluding representatives from the Rangpur division.
Nayan emphasized that the absence of an advisor from Rangpur was a betrayal of the legacy of martyr Abu Sayeed, a symbol of local sacrifice.
"The exclusion of Rangpur from the advisory council reflects the government's disregard for the region's development," he said.
"For the past 16 years, we have seen how Awami fascism has prioritized Gopalganj while neglecting the northern districts, including Rangpur. This pattern of marginalization must end," he added.
The students also raised concerns about the potential continued neglect of Rangpur's development, warning that without a representative in the advisory council, the region would face further setbacks in terms of progress.
"If our demand is not met, we will be forced to initiate an indefinite blockade of the 16 northern districts," the statement concluded, urging the government to address the issue urgently.
