Students to take action if DU JCD committee is not suspended by tonight: Umama
Dhaka University student activist Umama Fatema, former central coordinator and spokesperson of the anti-discrimination student movement, has condemned the announcement of a new Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal convening committee in the university halls, calling it a betrayal of the July uprising.
In a social media statement on Friday (August 8), Umama Fatema recalled the events of July 17, 2024, when student politics was banned in 18 halls of Dhaka University. She and several other students protested this decision by staging a sit-in in front of the administrative building.
She further noted that following the martyrdom of Abu Saeed on July 16 last year, students had gained the courage to liberate the campus from the influence of the Chhatra League. However, within a year, covert politics and the formation of open committees have resumed, which she described as a clear betrayal of the spirit of the July uprising.
Umama Fatema issued a stern warning that if the newly formed committee is not suspended by tonight, students will be forced to take strict measures.
