A sudden downpour swept across Dhaka on Sunday morning (September 13), bringing relief from days of sweltering heat but disrupting the morning commute across the capital. The rain began around 7:30am and continued for about an hour and a half, as dark clouds blanketed the city during peak travel hours. Many pedestrians and office-goers were caught without umbrellas and had to make their way through the heavy rain. The showers brought a welcome drop in temperature and eased the oppressive humidity. However, the sudden weather also triggered a shortage of public transport on several major routes, leaving many commuters stranded on city roads. The downpour came after several days of hot and humid weather in the capital.

ভাদ্রের তীব্র তাপদাহ ও অস্বস্তিকর ভ্যাপসা গরমের পর আশ্বিনের শুরুতেই রবিবার সকালে ঝুম বৃষ্টিতে ভিজল রাজধানী ঢাকা। আকস্মিক এই বৃষ্টিতে নগর জীবনে স্বস্তির পরশ মিললেও সকালের ব্যস্ত সময়ে কর্মস্থলে বের হওয়া মানুষকে পোহাতে হয়েছে চরম ভোগান্তি। আবহাওয়া দপ্তর সূত্রে জানা গেছে, রোববার (১৩ সেপ্টেম্বর) সকাল সাড়ে সাতটার দিকে হঠাৎ করেই কালো মেঘে ঢেকে যায় ঢাকার আকাশ। মুহূর্তের মধ্যেই শুরু হয় বৃষ্টি, যা চলে টানা প্রায় দেড় ঘণ্টা। সকালে হঠাৎ বৃষ্টি নামায় ছাতা ছাড়া বাসা থেকে বের হওয়া পথচারী ও অফিসগামী যাত্রীরা বিপাকে পড়েন। পথেই তাদের ভিজে একাকার হতে দেখা যায়। অনেকে রাস্তার পাশের দোকানপাটে আশ্রয় নেন। এদিকে টানা বৃষ্টির কারণে রাজধানীর মিরপুর, ফার্মগেট, রামপুরা, বাড্ডা, নতুন বাজারসহ বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রুটে গণপরিবহনের তীব্র সংকট দেখা দেয়। গণপরিবহন কম থাকায় এবং দীর্ঘ সময় যানবাহন না পাওয়ায় বাসস্ট্যান্ডে ঘণ্টার পর ঘণ্টা দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতে হয় যাত্রীদের। তবে বৃষ্টির ফলে কয়েক দিনের হাঁসফাঁস গরম ও উচ্চ আর্দ্রতা থেকে কিছুটা স্বস্তি পেয়েছেন নগরবাসী। কমতে শুরু করেছে তাপমাত্রার পারদ। আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর জানিয়েছে, আগামী ২৪ ঘণ্টায় দেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে হালকা থেকে মাঝারি ধরনের বৃষ্টির সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।
