Sufficient food in stock to keep market stable during Ramadan: Commerce Minister

Commerce, Industries and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir has said maintaining stable prices of essential commodities during Ramadan is a key responsibility of the government. He said adequate food stocks are in place to keep the market stable during the holy month.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after exchanging greetings with officials of various government departments and party leaders at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Friday, February 20.

Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir said neighbouring countries have implemented major digital schemes and are providing AI training to government officials. “We must also become capable of competing globally,” he said, adding that the government aims to utilise every day over the next five years to advance Bangladesh’s global standing.

Regarding Sylhet’s development plans, the minister said work will be carried out to improve the living standards of Sylhet residents in line with the election manifesto and campaign pledges. Special focus will be given to job creation, IT sector development and the establishment of an AI centre.

On increasing employment in the IT park, he said improving connectivity, resolving bureaucratic red tape and ensuring political stability are essential to attract investment. He added that special policy support is being formulated for expatriate and local investors and its implementation will become visible very soon.

He was received at Osmani International Airport by Sylhet-3 MP MA Malek, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi, Range DIG Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam, Sylhet district BNP President Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, acting president of Sylhet city BNP Rezaul Hasan Qayes Lodi and General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, among others.
