Sundarbans to reopen on September 1 after 3-month ban

After a continuous three-month ban, the Sundarbans will reopen on September 1. Through this, registered fishermen and woodcutters from the coastal areas of Satkhira will be able to enter the Sundarbans with passes from the forest department to collect fish and crabs.

On the same day, all tourism centres in the Sundarbans will also be opened for domestic and foreign tourists. The news of the forest reopening after a long period of unemployment has brought relief and renewed hope among forest-dependent communities.

In this regard, Assistant Forest Conservator (ACF) of Sundarbans Satkhira Range Mashiur Rahman said the Sundarbans will be reopened for all from September 1. During the ban, the forest department, Coast Guard and naval police conducted joint surveillance.

Confirming the same information, Burigoalini Station Officer Fazlul Haque said the Sundarbans will reopen on September 1. The forest department, Coast Guard, naval police and fisheries department will conduct joint monitoring activities to conserve biodiversity.

It may be mentioned that to protect the natural environment, biodiversity, wildlife breeding and fishery resources of the Sundarbans, the forest department had imposed a strict ban on all forms of entry into the forest for three months from June 1 to August 31, as it does every year.
