Supreme Court approves creation of 232 new judicial posts
The Supreme Court has unanimously approved the creation of 232 new judicial posts across various courts in Bangladesh to improve the judicial system’s efficiency and capacity.
The decision was announced in a press release by Md. Shafiqul Islam, Public Relations Officer of the Supreme Court Appellate Division.
The approval came following a committee meeting held at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, chaired by Senior Judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam. The meeting was conducted under the directive of Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed and in accordance with the Bangladesh Judicial Service Formation Rules, 2025.
The committee, which included members from the judiciary and relevant ministries, decided to create 64 posts equivalent to District and Sessions Judge level for the Child Rape Crime Suppression Tribunal in 64 districts, plus eight posts in metropolitan areas, totaling 72.
Additionally, 61 posts for family appellate courts will be established in districts excluding the hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban, along with four extra posts in Dhaka district due to higher caseloads, making 65 posts in total.
For the Land Survey Appeal Tribunals, 54 posts at the District Judge level will be created, while 41 additional posts will be formed for the Land Survey Tribunal after excluding 13 previously created posts.
Overall, the committee approved the creation of 232 new judicial posts.
The Ministry of Law and Justice will coordinate the recruitment of support staff, office equipment procurement, and other formalities, with proposals to be sent to the Ministry of Public Administration and the Finance Division.
The Supreme Court Registrar General has been tasked with implementing the decisions, following the Chief Justice’s approval.
