Supreme Court Legal Aid settles 2,346 cases since inception

The Supreme Court Legal Aid Office has settled 2,346 cases to date, ensuring access to justice for financially insolvent and underprivileged litigants. During the same period, a total of 30,696 litigants have received various forms of legal assistance.

This information was provided in a report published on the website of the National Legal Aid Organisation on Saturday (July 25). The report detailed statistics on the organisation's overall activities from 2009 to May 2026.

According to the data, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office officially began its journey on September 8, 2015. From its inception until May 2026, a total of 30,696 litigants received legal assistance through this office.

During this period, direct legal aid was provided in 3,413 cases through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, of which 2,346 were settled. Additionally, 27,283 individuals received legal advice and consultation services during the same timeframe, the report noted.

The National Legal Aid Organisation, under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, operates these programmes. Under the Legal Aid Act, the organisation provides legal assistance at government expense to financially insolvent and underprivileged litigants.
