Suspected explosive devices found near Mirpur-10, Farmgate Metro stations

Police have found bomb-like devices near two Dhaka Metro Rail stations on Saturday (August 1).

The devices were detected beneath the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate stations, according to The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Shortly after the detection, the DMP dispatched its Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit's Bomb Disposal Team to both locations to examine the suspicious objects and determine whether they pose any threat.

Being reported around midday, officers immediately cordoned off the areas and implemented additional security measures while bomb disposal specialists began their assessment.

Mohammad Shamsul Haque, additional commissioner of Police and chief of the DMP's CTTC unit, confirmed the incidents, saying specialized teams were simultaneously examining suspicious objects recovered in the Mirpur and Tejgaon areas.

"The CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit is conducting examinations at both sites. Further details will be released once the inspection is complete," he said.

Mostak Sarker, deputy commissioner of Police for the Mirpur Division, said it was too early to determine whether the recovered objects were improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

"Our bomb disposal personnel are examining the objects. At this stage, we cannot confirm their nature," he said.

Police said the Bomb Disposal Unit is working to safely neutralize the objects, if necessary, while carrying out forensic examinations to determine their composition.

Security has been reinforced around both Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations, and authorities have urged the public to avoid gathering near the affected areas until the operation is completed.
