Suspected robber held, teenage hostage rescued in Mirpur

Police arrested a suspected robber and rescued a teenage boy who was allegedly being held by a group of robbers during an operation in the capital's Mirpur area on Tuesday night (September 1).

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Rabbi, 19, was detained by a member of the Pallabi Traffic Zone near Metro Rail Pillar No. 222 in the Mirpur Bangla School Gap area under Pallabi Police Station.

According to police, the officer was on duty around 8:40pm when he noticed an autorickshaw parked suspiciously by the roadside. Approaching the vehicle, he heard a teenage boy, identified as Arko, shouting for help from inside.

The officer immediately moved in and detained Rabbi, while three other suspected robbers accompanying him managed to flee the scene.

The rescued teenager was taken into safe custody, while Rabbi was handed over to Pallabi Police Station for legal action, said police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations Md Akter Hossain confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest the three suspects who escaped.
