Suspected smuggler held with Tk10 cr diamond jewellery in Jashore

A suspected smuggler has been detained by the Border Guard (Bangladesh) BGB along with diamond ornaments worth Tk10 crore from the Sharsha border in Jashore.

Hafizur Rahman, 47, was detained with diamond ornaments on the Bodipara road of Panchbhulat village on the border on Thursday (January 30) morning.

Acting on a tip-off that diamonds would be smuggled from India to Bangladesh, the members of Border Guard Bangladesh conducted a raid and captured Hafizur along with the ornaments and a battery-powered van.

The jewellery include, 7 diamond rings weighing 210 grams, 2 anklets, 1 bracelet, 3 balas, and 12 nose rings worth Tk10 crore.

21 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Khurshid Anwar said that the recovered diamond jewellery has been deposited at the Jashore Treasury Office and the accused has been handed over to Sharsha Police Station.
