Suspicious objects found hanging from electric wires in Meherpur, panic spreads

Panic spread across Meherpur town after suspicious objects were found hanging from electric wires at three key locations. Police later confirmed the objects were sound boxes or amplifiers from battery-run auto-rickshaws.

Early on Saturday, locals spotted an object hanging from electric wires near the Meherpur University building. Police arrived and recovered it. Later, two more similar objects were found hanging from electric wires near the Court Mor area and in front of Sonali Bank.

Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir said the recovered objects were sound boxes (amplifiers) from battery-run auto-rickshaws.

He said law enforcement presence has been increased in key areas of the town.

Locals claimed the amplifiers were playing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's speeches. However, Meherpur Superintendent of Police Ujjwal Kumar Roy refuted this, saying the devices were found non-functional and no memory cards or similar items were recovered.

Police said the matter is being investigated after the suspicious objects were recovered.
