SUST forms probe committee to identify teachers involved in 'anti-state activities'

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) administration has formed a six-member probe committee to identify teachers involved in 'anti-state activities'.

The information was shared in a press release sent to journalists on Sunday, August 9. The notification, signed by Registrar Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Kadir, said the committee has been formed with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sazedul Karim as its convener.

The other members of the committee are Treasurer Professor Dr Md Ismail Hossain, Professor Dr Md Ashraf Uddin of the Mathematics Department, Professor Dr Abul Fazal Mohammad Zakaria of the Anthropology Department, and university legal adviser Advocate Mohammad Taj Uddin. Registrar Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Kadir will serve as member secretary.

The notification said a recent media report published allegations that several teachers from various universities were involved in 'anti-state secret activities'. Based on that report, the committee has been formed to investigate whether any SUST teachers are involved in such activities.

The terms of reference of the probe committee include identifying teachers involved in anti-state activities, determining the course of action and making necessary recommendations. Additionally, the committee will investigate whether any SUST teacher was involved in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement or threatening students during the previous government's tenure, in light of the media report.

A recent media report alleged that 404 pro-Awami League teachers from various universities were involved in anti-state secret activities on Telegram. The report mentioned the name of a pro-Awami League teacher from SUST as well.

Following the publication of the report, similar probe committees have been formed at Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University and Islamic University to investigate similar allegations.
