A Swechchhasebak Dal leader was beaten to death during an attack on a convoy of BNP in Gopalganj, the party's media wing said. According to a post on the Facebook page of 'Bangladesh Nationalist Party - BNP' on Friday (September 13) night, "Shaukat Ali Didar, sports secretary of the central unit of Swechchhasebak Dal, was killed in an attack by Awami League terrorists on the convoy of the central leaders of the Swechchhasebak Dal in Gopalganj. President of Swechchhasebak Dal SM Jilani, his wife and their two sons were seriously injured in the attack.” Meanwhile, at least 35 people, including journalists, were injured in the attack. BNP leaders and activists alleged that local Awami League leaders and activists carried out the attack. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Md Anisur Rahman and BNP central leader Selimuzzaman Selim confirmed the killing to the media.

গোপালগঞ্জে বিএনপির গাড়িবহরে হামলায় স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দলের এক নেতা প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন বলে জানিয়েছে দলটির মিডিয়া উইং। ‘বাংলাদেশ ন্যাশনালিস্ট পার্টি- বিএনপি’ নামের একটি ফেসবুক পেজ থেকে দেয়া এক পোস্টে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। শুক্রবার (১৩ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাতে ওই পোস্টে দাবি করা হয়, ‘গোপালগঞ্জে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দলের কেন্দ্রীয় নেতাদের গাড়িবহরে ‘আওয়ামী লীগ সন্ত্রাসীদের’ হামলায় কেন্দ্রীয় স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দলের ক্রীড়া সম্পাদক শওকত আলী দিদার নিহত হয়েছেন। এ ঘটনায় স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দলের সভাপতি এস এম জিলানী, তার সহধর্মিনী ও তাদের দুই ছেলে গুরুতর আহত হয়েছেন।’ এদিকে হামলার ঘটনায় সাংবাদিকসহ অন্তত ৩৫ জন আহত হয়েছেন বলে জানা গেছে। বিএনপি নেতাকর্মীদের অভিযোগ, স্থানীয় আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীরা এ হামলা চালিয়েছে। গোপালগঞ্জ সদর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. আনিচুর রহমান ও বিএনপির কেন্দ্রীয় নেতা সেলিমুজ্জামান সেলিম গণমাধ্যমে হত্যার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
