Swechchhasebak Dal leader held for 'murdering' father after failing to marry daughter

A man has reportedly been beaten to death by Swechchhasebak Dal leader as the victim refused to marry his 13-year-old daugher to the accused.

Police later detained the 42-year-old accused Swechchhasebak Dal leader Jitu Islam and three others immediately after the incident on Saturday (June 14) afternoon.

The deceased is Shakil Mia, 33, a resident of the Shibbati area of ​​the city. The incident took place in the Phulbari area of ​​Bogura city.

The accused is also a resident of the same area. He is the deputy general secretary of the Bogura District unit Swechchhasebak Dal.

According to police and local sources, the accused Jitu and his associates took Shakil from the Shibbati area to the Phulbari area and beat him to death.

Jitu was picked up from the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SHJMEC) Hospital in Bogura soon after the incident.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station said: "We have initially learned that Jitu had proposed marriage to Shakil's teenage daughter. Shakil did not agree to this proposal. Jitu allegedly got angry and killed Shakil. Three people, including Jitu, have been detained in this connection. A case is set to be filed in this regard."
