Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda has dissolved his party and joined the BNP along with his supporters.

He formally joined the BNP at an event held at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon, where he was welcomed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir with flowers.

According to BNP sources, Syed Ehsanul Huda is expected to contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election from the Kishoreganj-5 constituency using the party’s sheaf of paddy symbol.

Welcoming the new members, the BNP secretary general said Syed Ehsanul Huda and his followers had joined the party expressing confidence in Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the party’s founder President Ziaur Rahman’s 19-point programme, and Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. He said the inclusion would further strengthen the BNP.

Speaking after joining, Syed Ehsanul Huda said the BNP believes in nationalist ideals and that he had joined the party at this critical time to advance democracy. He said by dissolving his own party and joining the BNP, he hoped to use his past experience of street movements to help build a better Bangladesh in line with the party’s 31-point programme.

BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was also present at the event.
