Sylhet Chamber election schedule cancelled, new administrator appointed

The election of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (SCCI) board of directors has been cancelled and a new administrator appointed. Former director of the organisation Ejaz Ahmed Chowdhury has been appointed as the new administrator.

The information was conveyed in a press release signed by SCCI's Executive Secretary on Sunday, September 27. Earlier, Sylhet Additional District Magistrate Pinki Saha had been serving as the organisation's administrator by virtue of office.

Preparation was underway to hold the SCCI election on November 5. Amid this, the election schedule was cancelled and a new administrator appointed by order of the Ministry of Commerce.

The chamber's press release stated that, as per the Ministry of Commerce's order of September 24, the SCCI board of directors election scheduled for November 5 has been cancelled. In a separate order of the same date, Ejaz Ahmed Chowdhury has been appointed as administrator.

Regarding the new administrator's responsibilities, the press release stated that he will include members and update the member list. After that, he will take necessary measures to organise a fair and participatory election by preparing a new election schedule and voter list.

It may be mentioned that, following the situation after August 5, 2004, two schedules had earlier been announced to organise the SCCI election. However, the election was not held in the end on both occasions.
