Sylhet city tax can now be paid online from anywhere in the world

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has launched an online portal allowing residents and expatriate Bangladeshis to pay holding taxes and other municipal fees from anywhere in the world.

SCC Administrator Abdul Qayum Chowdhury inaugurated the new holding tax management system and citizen service portal at Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday.

The portal is available at ht.scc.gov.bd.

The new system allows users to register with a mobile number, link their holding and access details including the property owner’s name, house information, annual assessment and outstanding taxes from previous years. Users can also generate bills, make payments online and reprint previous receipts.

Payments can be made 24 hours a day through mobile financial services including bKash, Nagad, Rocket and Upay, as well as Visa and Mastercard, internet banking and Bangla QR. An electronic receipt will be sent to the registered mobile number by SMS immediately after payment.

The online facility is also available to expatriates living abroad, allowing them to settle SCC taxes and fees without visiting a bank or city corporation office. The existing system of paying taxes at bank counters will remain available.

The portal also provides access to current and previous bills and payment records. Citizens can submit objections to tax assessments online, eliminating the need to visit the corporation office for the initial submission.

SCC Administrator Abdul Qayum said the initiative was designed to reduce the time and inconvenience involved in paying municipal taxes and make civic services more accessible. He said easier payment facilities could also encourage greater tax compliance and strengthen the corporation’s revenue collection.
