Sylhet Jubo Dal leader expelled over extortion allegations
Sylhet Metropolitan unit Jubo Dal joint organising secretary Joydeb Chowdhury Madhob has been expelled from the party following allegations of extortion.
The Central Executive Committee of Jubo Dal issued a notification confirming his expulsion today (March 1), citing his involvement in activities that violated party discipline.
The decision, signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, the joint office secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal Central Executive Committee, was made just hours after a protest by hawkers in Sylhet.
The hawkers had blocked a road in Zindabazar from 9pm to 10pm on Friday, demanding the release of two individuals who were allegedly taken by Madhob for not paying extortion money.
The protestors accused Madhob of extorting money from them, leading to the blockade. The situation was resolved after Sylhet Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury intervened and assured the hawkers that the issue would be addressed. He stated that any individual involved in extortion, especially if connected to Jubo Dal politics, would face expulsion.
Madhob was expelled within two hours of the protest, with the Jubo Dal Central Executive Committee stating that they would not take responsibility for the actions of the expelled leader. Party leaders and activists have been instructed not to engage with him in any organizational capacity.
