Sylhet petrol pumps owners call for strike, fuel sales halted

Fuel traders in Sylhet have called for a strike from Monday (March 9) night over two-point demand.

The CNG Refueling and Petrol Pump Owners Association has called for a strike in the wake of unpleasant incidents with customers over fuel shortage at several petrol pumps. They have given an ultimatum until Tuesday (March 10) noon to meet their demands.

Humayun Ahmed, General Secretary of CNG Refueling and Petrol Pump Owners Association Sylhet, said: "Unpleasant incidents occurred at several pumps in Sylhet, including my one in Chowkidekhi area. There have been incidents of attacks, vandalism and beatings of employees at various pumps due to lack of fuel oil. It is not possible to keep the pumps running in such an insecure situation."

"We are not getting oil supply as per demand from the depot. As a result, we are not able to provide fuel as per demand to the customers," he added.

He said: "We have decided to close all petrol pumps in Sylhet from tonight (Monday) on two demands. We demand the arrest of the attackers at the petrol pump by 2 pm on Tuesday and the supply of fuel as per demand from the depot."

According to relevant sources, a customer stabbed an employee at M/s Uttara Petroleum in the Chowkidekhi area of ​​the city on Monday before Iftar over breaking the serial and taking oil. The injured employee, Mithu Goala, is the son of Bijoy Goala of Malinichhara Tea Garden.

Manager of M/s Uttara Petroleum Maruf Ahmed Chowdhury said that when a person who came to take oil was requested to maintain the serial, he disobeyed. He had an argument with the pump workers over this. Later, he left. But after a while, he returned and stabbed the worker."

Inspector (Investigation) of Airport Police Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Soumen Moitra, said that a customer stabbed the employee after he did not get fuel at the petrol pump. After receiving the information, the police visited the scene. The accused has been identified. He will be arrested soon.
