Sylhet records three more suspected measles deaths in 24 hours
The measles situation in Sylhet Division continues to worsen, with three more children dying with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, pushing the total death toll to 99, according to the Divisional Health Directorate.
The latest fatalities occurred at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. Health officials identified the deceased as Kamrul, Krishna and Nihad, all of whom were under 10 months old.
Despite no new laboratory-confirmed cases being reported in the last 24 hours, hospitals across the division admitted 66 suspected measles patients during the same period.
Health authorities said 297 patients with measles symptoms are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across Sylhet Division.
According to the Divisional Health Directorate, 534 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been recorded in the division between January 1 and July 18, 2026.
Of the 99 reported deaths, only four have been laboratory-confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining fatalities involved patients who exhibited measles symptoms and are classified as suspected cases.
Health officials continue to monitor the outbreak closely as concerns grow over infections among infants and other vulnerable groups.
