Sylhet triple murder: Accused Babul gives confessional statement in court

An accused in the triple murder at a residential building in Sylhet has given a confessional statement before a court after four days of police remand.

The accused, Bablu Mia, was produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Farhana Sultana on Thursday (August 20) under tight security after completing his four-day remand. He expressed his willingness to make a statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, after which the magistrate recorded his statement.

According to court sources, the statement was recorded from 6pm to 8pm.

Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the development.

Bablu is a resident of Akhtar Mia Colony in Raynagar Rajbari area of Sylhet. His father was late Nur Mia.

The triple murder took place on August 12 at Nikunj Villa in Raynagar Mitali Residential Area. M A Sattar, a leader of the banned Awami League and former director of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was killed along with his wife Suraiya Begum and their domestic worker Tahmina at their home.

Police arrested Bablu on the day of the killings. Later, police sought a 10-day remand for questioning, but the court granted four days.

After completing the remand, Bablu was brought before the court on Thursday, where he gave the confessional statement.
