Sylhet youth shot dead by gunmen in Portugal

A Bangladeshi youth from Sylhet was shot dead by gunmen at his business establishment in Almada, Lisbon, Portugal.

The tragic incident took place at ‘Jamila Mini Mercado’ on Friday (June 13) evening (Portugal time).

The deceased, Mahbubul Alam, is the son of Nanna Mia, a US expatriate from Manikkona village in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet.

He had been living with his family in Lisbon of Portugal for several years.

Quoting the family, North Fenchuganj UP Chairman Abzal Hossain said that a group of criminals attacked Mahbubul Alam’s business establishment on Friday evening. When they were looting the business establishment, the terrorists opened fire on Mahbubul. They fired three rounds of bullets at Mahbubul Alam’s chest. Emergency services reached the spot and recovered him dead.

Portugal's judicial police have taken over the investigation into the incident and have launched an operation to arrest the attackers.

The murder has spread shock and fear among the Bangladeshi community in Portugal. Demands for justice for the killers have also become strong on social media.
