Systemic change essential to protect Dhaka’s environment: Rizwana Hasan
Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said that safeguarding Dhaka’s environment requires systemic changes alongside public awareness and participation.
She made the remarks as chief guest at a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) auditorium in Motijheel on Saturday (August 23).
RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam attended as a special guest, while DCCI President Taskin Ahmed presided over the discussion.
Rizwana highlighted ongoing initiatives, including campaigns to curb industrial and river pollution, anti-polythene drives, and measures to control air pollution in Savar, now declared a “degraded airshed.”
She also emphasized the importance of eco-friendly urban planning, sustainable construction, and greening uncovered areas.
Experts and officials from RAJUK, DNCC, DSCC, BUET, and environmental bodies participated, urging implementation of integrated policies for environmental protection, sustainable urban development, and decentralisation.
