Tangail train accident: Bodies of five handed to families, burials today
The bodies of five people, including a mother and her son, who were killed in a train accident in Kalihati of Tangail, have been handed over to their families.
The Railway authorities completed the legal procedures and released the bodies around 4:00am on Friday (March 27).
The bodies were then taken to their respective villages, with burials scheduled for the afternoon.
Each family received Tk 25,000 in compensation from the Railway.
The accident took place on Friday night around 8:00pm in Dhalatengar area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Nargis, 35, and her son Nirab, 12, Nargis’s elder son’s mother-in-law Dola, 35, Sultan, 33, son of Raizel Mia, and Rifa Akter, 23, daughter of Abdur Rashid.
According to family and local sources, the victims were returning to Dhaka after the Eid holiday. Their bus ran out of fuel near the railway tracks, and while the driver went to fetch fuel, some passengers were sitting and talking near the tracks. A train struck them, killing five instantly.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Gharinda Railway Police, confirmed the bodies were handed over following legal procedures. An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
Rifa Akter’s elder brother said the bodies will be buried in the family graveyard after the funeral prayers this afternoon.
