Tania, Ershad elected new president, GS of CU's 'Jhupri'
Tania Kamal and Mohammad Ershad Karim have been elected president and general secretary respectively of 'Jhupri', the organisation of the 35th batch students of Chittagong University (CU). The new executive committee will serve for the next two years.
Offline voting was held at the organisation's office in Soloshahar, Chattogram, on June 26, following online voting. The offline voting took place from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and the results were announced within an hour.
The other elected members are Rajib Bishwas, Anik Barua, Md Idris, Sakia Sultana, Belayet Hossain, Md Saiful Azam, Mahua Mahajan, Md Alamgir Khan, Md Enamul Haque, Md Ismail and Joyita Majumder.
The election commissioners were Tajdar Alam, Golam Rabbani, Farhana Kabir, Hasan Uddin and Mohammad Elias.
Speaking after the results, newly elected president Tania Kamal said, "Just as our campus is our life, Jhupri will be our heart's Jhupri."
General Secretary Mohammad Ershad Karim said, "I do not see the responsibility of general secretary as a position of power. I see it as a bridge — connecting friends with friends, batches with batches, and generations with generations."
Members said the election was held in a festive atmosphere, with celebrations and camaraderie surrounding the voting and result announcement.
'Jhupri' was formed to strengthen the bonds, mutual cooperation and lifelong relationships among the 35th batch students of Chittagong University. It has already established itself as an active and vibrant community through reunions, social initiatives, support for needy members, cultural events and communication. Under the new committee, the organisation is expected to expand its humanitarian and welfare activities.
