Tarique Chowdhury re-elected secretary of World Democratic Lawyers Council

Bangladeshi lawyer Hasan Tarique Chowdhury Sohel has been re-elected as secretary of the World Democratic Lawyers Council during its 19th Congress held in Kathmandu.

Chowdhury, also the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Democratic Lawyers Association and a prominent Supreme Court lawyer, was chosen to continue leading the organization’s central committee.

The conference, held under the slogan “Law for the Rights of the People,” gathered lawyers from over a dozen countries, including the US, UK, France, India, Pakistan, and Nepal.

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the event, which was also attended by the country’s Law Minister and Attorney General.

Delegates discussed key issues such as anti-fascist movements, human rights, rule of law, environmental concerns, and contemporary geopolitical challenges.

A 16-member delegation from Bangladesh participated in the congress.
