Tarique Rahman invited to India visit and BRICS summit: Jaiswal

New Delhi has extended an invitation to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India on a bilateral tour. Additionally, he has been invited to participate in the outreach session of the upcoming BRICS summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi this September.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs, shared this information during a weekly briefing in New Delhi on Tuesday. He stated that an official invitation was extended to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India bilaterally immediately after the new government took office in Bangladesh.

Randhir Jaiswal further explained that Bangladesh has been invited to take part in the BRICS outreach session in its capacity as the current chair of BIMSTEC. Consequently, India has invited the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to attend the session.

The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also commented on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi, describing it as positive and promising. He noted that the meeting covered various matters of mutual interest between India and Bangladesh and touched upon different aspects of bilateral relations.

The 18th BRICS summit, hosted by India, is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. According to BRICS norms, leaders of various regional blocs are invited to the summit's outreach sessions.

Bangladesh is the current chair of BIMSTEC, and in that capacity, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh received the invitation to the BRICS outreach session. The invitation was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on July 14 via a diplomatic note through the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

However, Tuesday's briefing did not specify a timeline for when Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit India. Against the backdrop of advancing bilateral relations between the two countries, his potential visit to India and participation in the BRICS summit are seen as significant diplomatic developments.
