Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and chief patron of 'Amra BNP Poribar,' has offered support to the ailing mother of national women’s footballer Ritu Porna Chakma, who is battling cancer.

A delegation from 'Amra BNP Poribar' visited the family of Ritu Porna Chakma at their home in the remote hill village of Magachhari, located in Ghagra Union of Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati, on Wednesday (July 9). The delegation was led by Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP and chief advisor to the platform. Also present were the platform’s convener, Atikur Rahman Ruman, along with several central and local BNP leaders.

During the visit, Rizvi handed over financial aid for medical treatment to Ritu Porna’s mother, Bhujopoti Chakma, and conveyed a message of solidarity and support from Tarique Rahman to the family.

The delegation also included Barrister Mir Helal, BNP’s Assistant Organizing Secretary for the Chattogram Division; advisor Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul; member secretary Moksedul Momin Mithun; National Press Club executive member Zahidul Islam Rony; Rangamati BNP President Dipan Talukder Dipu; General Secretary Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun; and Chhatra Dal leader Shariful Islam Tuhin, among others.

It is worth noting that Ritu Porna Chakma’s father, Baroj Banshi Chakma, died of cancer in 2015. Inspired by him, Ritu Porna followed her passion for football and is now a forward for the Bangladesh national women’s football team. She is also pursuing her studies in the Philosophy Department at Dhaka University. In the recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, she played a key role in Bangladesh’s success, scoring twice against Myanmar and once against Turkmenistan.
