BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday (December 31) sought prayers and forgiveness for his mother, former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, ahead of her janaza attended by hundreds of thousands of mourners. Addressing the gathering on behalf of the family and the party, Tarique Rahman said anyone to whom Khaleda Zia may have owed money should contact him, assuring that the dues would be settled. “If anyone was hurt by her words or actions during her lifetime, I seek forgiveness on her behalf,” he said, urging all to pray for the salvation of her soul. The janaza was led by Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. After the prayers, Khaleda Zia’s body was taken to Zia Udyan for burial.&nbsp;

বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন ও সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার জানাজা লাখো মানুষের উপস্থিতিতে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। জানাজার আগে পরিবার ও দলের পক্ষ থেকে বক্তব্য দেন বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমান। তিনি মায়ের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনায় সবার কাছে দোয়া এবং ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করেন। বুধবার (৩১ ডিসেম্বর) তারেক রহমান বলেন, ‘আমি মরহুমা বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার বড় সন্তান। এখানে উপস্থিত সকল ভাই ও বোনদের উদ্দেশে বলছি—মরহুমা যদি কারও কাছ থেকে কোনো ঋণ নিয়ে থাকেন, তাহলে আমার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করবেন। ইনশাআল্লাহ, আমি তা পরিশোধ করব।’ তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘খালেদা জিয়া জীবিত থাকাকালে তাঁর কোনো আচরণ বা কথাবার্তায় কেউ কষ্ট পেয়ে থাকলে, তাঁর পক্ষ থেকে আমি ক্ষমা চাইছি। দয়া করে তাঁর জন্য দোয়া করবেন।’ জাতীয় মসজিদ বায়তুল মোকাররমের খতিব মুফতি আবদুল মালেকের ইমামতিতে জানাজার নামাজ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। নামাজ শেষে খালেদা জিয়ার মরদেহ বহনকারী অ্যাম্বুলেন্স জিয়া উদ্যানের উদ্দেশে রওনা দেয়।
