Tarique Rahman set to become party chairman within short time: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Tarique Rahman will take charge as BNP chairman in a few days and will start the election campaign from Sylhet.
Mirza Fakhrul disclosed this information during an exchange of views with media workers on Sunday (January 4) evening.
Stating that this election is important for the nation, Fakhrul said that it is important because people were deprived of their voting rights for so long. After a long time, they have regained their voting rights.
Although the media is talking about fears about the upcoming elections, BNP as a party is not worried, he said that BNP has wanted elections from the beginning.
Expressing optimism about the elections, he also said that the elections are moving forward on their path. The commission will implement the elections with everyone's cooperation.
Regarding mob violence, the BNP leader said that mobocracy destroys democracy. It must be overcome.
Referring to the death of Begum Khaleda Zia, the BNP Secretary General said, Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away royally through a democratic struggle. He expressed his hope of building the democratic Bangladesh that Khaleda Zia dreamed of in the future.
Addressing the political parties, he said, let's utilize the opportunity we have got. Today's opportunity has come. We have to utilize this opportunity. Democracy is not built in a day, democratic culture is not developed in a day. Mirza Fakhrul expressed his determination to form a democratic parliament.
Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul arrived in Sylhet by air in the afternoon. Then after Asr, he first visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and then Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
At this time, he prayed for the eternal peace of the souls of the late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, martyred President Ziaur Rahman and all the deceased party leaders and activists, and for the overall success of the country and the party in the upcoming elections.
At this time, the BNP Secretary General was accompanied by BNP Chairperson's advisor and BNP nominated candidate for Sylhet-4 constituency Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Chairperson's advisor and BNP nominated candidate for Sylhet-3 constituency MA Malik, Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi and General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, as well as leaders of Sylhet District and Metropolitan BNP and its affiliates and associate organizations.
Mirza Fakhrul returned to Dhaka at night.
