BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit his home district of Bogura on January 11, marking his first trip there in 19 years.

The visit comes ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, where his candidacy from Bogura-6 (Sadar) has already been validated.

Party sources said Tarique will arrive in Bogura on the evening of January 11 and stay overnight. On Monday, January 12, at 10:00am, he is scheduled to participate in a public prayer at Altafunnesha Playground in Bogura city for the late former Prime Minister and his mother, Begum Khaleda Zia, before proceeding to Rangpur.

On the way to Rangpur, he will visit the historic Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (R.) shrine in Mahasthan under Shibganj of Bogura.

Local BNP leaders, including Bogura district BNP vice president Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel and Shibganj Upazila BNP general secretary Abdul Wahab, said party workers will welcome him en route and accompany him to the district border.

Ahead of his visit, his Green Estate residence on Riaz Kazi Lane in Bogura has been refurbished. The house, established in 1973 and renovated by Tarique in 2000, served as his operational base during his political activities between 2001 and 2007. Party sources believe he may stay there again for election campaign and organisational directives.
