Tarique Rahman set to visit Nilphamari today after 22 years
BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to visit the northern district of Nilphamari on Saturday February 7), marking his first trip to the area in nearly 22 years, party leaders said.
He is scheduled to address an election rally as the chief guest at the Nilphamari Municipal Ground around 1:30pm. His visit has generated strong enthusiasm among BNP leaders, activists and supporters, with festive scenes reported across the town.
Extensive preparations have been made to receive the BNP chief, while security measures have been tightened to maintain law and order. Members of the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other law enforcement agencies will be deployed at and around the venue.
Nilphamari district BNP convener Mir Selim Faruk said Rahman would arrive at the rally venue by helicopter and that all organisational arrangements had been completed. He expressed hope that nearly 200,000 party supporters from across the district and surrounding upazilas would join the gathering.
Saidpur BNP President Abdul Gofur Sarker said Tarique Rahman’s return after more than two decades was a moment of pride for party workers. He added that supporters were eager to hear Rahman’s views on regional development, particularly the Teesta mega project, which is seen as vital for northern Bangladesh.
