Tarique Rahman submits nomination papers for Dhaka-17
BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman has submitted his nomination papers to contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election from the Dhaka-17 constituency.
On Monday, December 29, nomination papers were submitted on his behalf around 12.00pm at the Dhaka divisional commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha. The papers were handed over to divisional commissioner and returning officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury by Professor Dr Forhad Halim Donar, chief adviser of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh.
BNP chairperson’s advisory council member Abdus Salam and sports affairs secretary Aminul Haque were present at the time.
Abdus Salam said the nomination papers had been submitted on behalf of the party’s acting chairperson. He described Tarique Rahman as a persecuted leader who had returned to the country after a long time, adding that people were eagerly waiting to exercise their voting rights.
He said conspiracies were underway against the country and claimed there was no alternative to BNP for democratic transition. He also said Tarique Rahman would lead Bangladesh following in his father’s footsteps and resolve the country’s problems.
Following reports of Tarique Rahman’s candidacy in Dhaka-17, Bangladesh National Party chairman Andalib রহমান Partha withdrew from the seat and decided to contest from Bhola-1 instead. He was elected as a member of parliament from Bhola-1 in the 2008 election with BNP support.
