Despite numerous challenges over the past year, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed sincere gratitude to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, and all relevant members for their efforts to facilitate the path of democracy.

The message was conveyed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul welcomed the announcement made during a meeting in London between Tarique Rahman and Professor Dr. Yunus, confirming that the upcoming national election is scheduled for February 2026. He said, “BNP views this historic declaration as a positive step toward ending the ongoing political deadlock in Bangladesh and facilitating democratic progress.”

He further expressed confidence that the government and the Election Commission would take all necessary measures to ensure the election is free, fair, impartial, and acceptable to all parties. Mirza Fakhrul called upon all political parties and citizens to work together to make the election a success, institutionalize democracy, and form an effective national parliament.

Highlighting hopes for swift completion of the remaining reforms in the state structure, he added that BNP pays tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for democracy, sympathizes with the injured, and prays for their speedy recovery. The party also urged the government to provide rehabilitation and proper medical care to the families of martyrs.

Finally, Mirza Fakhrul extended heartfelt thanks to Tarique Rahman for his leadership in the democratic movement over the past eight years. He concluded by calling on the nation to unite in building a prosperous Bangladesh envisioned by the country’s founding leaders and the modern democratic vision championed by Tarique Rahman.
