Tarique Rahman to deliver speech on BTV Feb 9

The Election Commission has asked Bangladesh Television to make arrangements for a speech by BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman on Monday, February 9.

The instruction was given in a letter sent on Tuesday by Election Commission public relations director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik to the director general of Bangladesh Television.

The letter said creating a fair, free and acceptable election environment is crucial, and equal access to election campaigning on Bangladesh Television can play an important role in that regard.

The commission has issued directives regarding allocation of slots for election speeches by party chiefs on Bangladesh Television. According to Rule 6 Ga of the National Parliamentary Election Code of Conduct 2025, slots must be allocated in the order applications are received, with duration and timing fixed by BTV in consultation with the respective political parties.

The commission noted that no political party other than BNP has applied for airtime. As a result, it has asked BTV to make necessary arrangements for BNP’s party chief to deliver his speech in the final slot on February 9, as requested by the party.
