BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh immediately after the announcement of the national election schedule, the party's foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir confirmed in an exclusive interview with Daily Samakal.

Kabir also hinted that Tarique Rahman may contest multiple constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

He revealed that US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Tracey Ann Jacobson, held a closed-door meeting with Tarique Rahman in London on July 13. During the meeting, the two discussed BNP’s vision for the next election, including plans for government formation and the party’s broader political roadmap.

“The discussions covered the kind of country BNP envisions if it wins the next election, including the electoral framework and governance strategy,” said Humayun Kabir.

Tarique Rahman, who has been in self-imposed exile in London since 2008, has been leading the party’s strategy from abroad. His potential return marks a significant political development ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.
