National Citizen Party, NCP spokesperson and former adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has said the BNP would face a major political crisis again if the party attempts to rehabilitate the Awami League. He also warned that such a move could create a disastrous situation for the country.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘March for Daripalla’ programme organised by Jamaat-e-Islami at Rahim Uddin Degree College field in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura around 11:00am, January 31.

Asif Mahmud said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been making positive remarks at different places about bringing the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina back into politics, which he described as highly concerning. He claimed such a stance could create major political complications in the future.

He also said although martyred president Ziaur Rahman is respected as a nationalist leader, one of his major political mistakes was allowing Sheikh Hasina to return to the country, which enabled the Awami League to re-enter active politics.

The NCP leader alleged that people of the country have been paying the price for a long time for bringing back the Awami League, which, according to him, curtailed public rights through Baksal. He said the country has also witnessed the suffering of Begum Khaleda Zia during the final phase of her life and political conspiracies during the 1/11 period.

Referring to the referendum, he urged people to vote ‘yes’ to prevent what he termed Awami fascism in the country. According to him, the referendum would reflect the true opinion of the people. He also said necessary initiatives would be taken to develop Bogura district, which has fallen behind politically.

The programme was presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Bogura-3 constituency Nur Mohammad Abu Taher. Among others present were Bogura district Jamaat ameer Abdul Haque Sarkar, candidate for Bogura-4 constituency Mostafa Faisal Parvez, Raksu vice-president Mostakur Rahman Zahid and Jaksu general secretary Abdul Alim Arif, along with party leaders and activists.
