Tasnim Zara’s nomination for Dhaka-9 declared valid

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday (January 9) declared the nomination of independent candidate and former National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Tasnim Zara valid for the Dhaka-9 constituency.
The decision came after an appeal hearing around 12:30pm.
Speaking to reporters at the EC premises, Tasnim Zara said his appeal had been approved, restoring his candidacy as an independent candidate.
Zara described the past week as a unique experience, noting widespread support and well-wishes from both home and abroad. “While talking to people on the streets, I also heard their frustrations and concerns, which has further inspired me,” she said.
He thanked everyone involved in the process and said he will now apply for the allocation of an election symbol. He has requested the “football” symbol, which the EC will decide on.
Earlier, the Returning Officer had rejected Zara’s nomination on January 3. He filed an appeal against the decision on January 5. Tasnim Zara had resigned from the NCP on December 27 and announced he would contest the upcoming national election as an independent candidate.
