Tawhid Afridi's bail upheld by Appellate Division
The Appellate Division has upheld the bail of controversial content creator Tawhid Afridi. He was arrested in connection with the murder of Asadul Haque Babu in Jatrabari during the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
Earlier last year, a court had granted Afridi a five-day remand. The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque's court on August 25.
According to case documents, Asadul Haque Babu was participating in the anti-discrimination movement in Jatrabari on August 5, 2024. He was seriously injured by bullets fired by the accused around 2:30 pm. He was later taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The victim's father, Zainal Abedin, filed a murder case at Jatrabari Police Station on August 30 of that year. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 others were named as accused in the case. In the charge sheet, Nasir Uddin Sathi was named as the 22nd accused and his son Tawhid Afridi as the 11th accused.
