The sale of subsidised essentials under the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) programme for July began in Rajshahi on Sunday (July 19), with more than 1,74,000 low-income families set to benefit across the district.

The programme was formally inaugurated in Chandipur area by Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, who said a total of 174,057 cardholder families from Rajshahi city and its nine upazilas will receive subsidised products this month.

The items are being distributed through 83 dealer outlets, including 36 within Rajshahi city.

This month's TCB package is priced at Tk 458, containing two litres of edible oil, two kilograms of lentils, one kilogram of sugar and two bars of soap. Consumers may choose whether to purchase the soap included in the package.

The deputy commissioner said the district administration is closely monitoring the distribution process to ensure subsidised goods reach eligible beneficiaries without irregularities.

Meanwhile, TCB Regional Deputy Director Atikur Rahman said rice has not been allocated for the July package, although the programme usually includes five kilograms of rice at Tk 30 per kilogram.

He added that subsidised rice sales are expected to resume from next month.
