Tea shop owner’s throat slit at own home

Faruq Sheikh, 46, a tea shop owner, has been killed by throat-slitting at his own house in Goalanda of Rajbari. Miscreants murdered him and police recovered his blood-soaked body from his room at municipal Jamtola area around 2:30pm on Saturday (August 22).

The deceased Faruq Sheikh was the son of Khalek Sheikh of Jamtola area under ward No. 4 of Goalanda municipality. He used to run a tea shop at Daulatdia ghat with his brother.

According to family and local sources, Faruq’s four-day shift at the shop ended on Friday. For this reason he did not go to the shop on Saturday and stayed at home. Around 7am he had breakfast at a local hotel and then returned home and stayed in his room.

In the afternoon his father went to the room with food and found Faruq’s blood-soaked body lying on the floor with his throat and limbs cut. At his screams, nearby people rushed in and informed the police. Police later went to the spot and recovered the body.

The deceased’s brother Barek Sheikh said the two brothers used to run a tea shop at Daulatdia ghat. The brother who stayed at the shop would perform duty for four consecutive days. As Faruq’s duty ended on Friday, he was at home on Saturday. When food was taken to the house in the afternoon, he was found dead inside the room. No one was seen at that time.

Owner of a hotel at Jamtola, Jiban Sheikh, said Faruq had breakfast at his shop around 7am on Saturday and then went home. Nothing more was known about him after that.

Family members said Faruq had multiple marriages at different places in Tangail and Daulatdia. However, none of those wives used to live with him at present.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goalanda Ghat Police Station Md Shafiqul Islam said police went to the spot after receiving the information. A CID crime scene team from Faridpur is working at the spot. There are marks of sharp weapon injuries on the throat and hands of the body. Details about the murder will be known after autopsy.
