A group of tea workers vandalised a hospital and briefly held doctors and staff captive following the death of a local tea worker's teenage daughter at Kamalganj in Moulvibazar.

The incident took place on Friday (March 27) at Camellia Duncan Foundation Hospital in Shamshernagar of the upazila, after 14-year-old seventh grader Aishi Rabidas, daughter of tea worker Babul Rabidas, died while undergoing treatment. She had been admitted the previous night with severe headache and vomiting.

Following her death, family members and nearby tea workers besieged the hospital, damaging furniture, flower pots, and other property, causing panic in the area.

Police later intervened and brought the situation under control.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the situation is now stable.

During the incident, hospital doctor Anwarul Islam was briefly confined and later resigned in writing, leaving the hospital under police protection.

Hospital authorities stated that Aishi received proper medical care and denied any negligence.

Police have launched an investigation and said necessary action will be taken.
