Teacher arrested in Cumilla over SSC script evaluation by student
A teacher and a 10th-grade student have been arrested in Debiddar, Cumilla, for allegedly having a student evaluate SSC examination scripts. The accused are Md Bachchu Mia, acting head teacher of Abdullahpur Hazi Amir Ali High School, and Mehdi Hasan, a Class 10 student of the same school.
Debiddar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman confirmed the arrests on Sunday, July 12, saying they were apprehended on Saturday night and produced in court on Sunday morning.
According to police and local sources, Bachchu Mia, who was assigned to evaluate General Science answer scripts, had allegedly outsourced the task to student Mehdi Hasan instead of doing it himself.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, prompting the Education Minister to order an investigation and strict legal action. A case was filed against the accused under the Public Examination (Offence) Act, 1980, following which police arrested them.
