Teacher found dead with hands, feet tied in Gaibandha

Police have recovered the body of a school teacher in Gobindaganj upazila, Gaibandha, with her hands and feet tied and a scarf wrapped around her neck.

The body was recovered around 4 pm on Saturday from a house in Chak Gobindpur area, ward 5 of Gobindaganj municipality, adjacent to the upazila health complex.

Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Mozammel Haque confirmed the matter.

The deceased, Shamsunnahar Ruma, 40, was the daughter of Solaiman Ali Master of Fulbari village in the upazila. She was an assistant teacher at Chandipur Government Primary School.

According to police and family sources, Shamsunnahar Ruma lived with her only son in the house owned by her father. Her son stays in Dhaka for studies. She was separated from her husband.

On Saturday, neighbours became concerned after receiving no response from Ruma throughout the day. Upon entering the house, they found her lifeless body lying inside. The furniture in the room was in disarray. Police were informed and recovered the body.

OC Mozammel Haque said it is suspected that miscreants entered the house, tied her hands and feet, wrapped a scarf around her neck and strangled her to death.

The crime scene unit is working to unravel the mystery of the murder. The body has been sent to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Filing of a case is underway.
