Teacher, student killed by lightning in Netrokona

In two separate incidents in Netrokona, a madrasa teacher and a young madrasa student student were killed by lightning strikes.

The incidents occurred in different places: one at midnight in Gobindapur village of Kalmakanda on Sunday (April 27) , and the other on Monday (April 28) morning in Tioshri village of Madan upazila.

The deceased teacher was Didarul Islam, a resident of Dhunand village in Nazirpur Union of Kalmakanda. He worked as a teacher at a local madrasa near Gobindapur Bazar.

The other victim was Arafat Mia, a 9-year-old student and son of Abdus Salam from Tioshri village of Madan upazila. He was studying at the Baitul Jannat Hafezia Madrasa in his village.

According to locals and Obaidul Haque, Chairman of Kharnai Union Parishad, Didarul was on his way from the market to the madrasa when he got caught in a thunderstorm. As he reached near the madrasa, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.

In a separate incident, a local resident named Saker Khan said Arafat was going to his madrasa around 6:30 am on Monday during rain. As he reached near the madrasa, he too was struck by lightning and died instantly.
