Teachers-staff lay siege to Shikkha Bhaban demanding DSHE DG's removal

Teachers and staff from the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance once again laid siege to Shikkha Bhaban, demanding the removal of Professor Ehtesham Ul Hoque, Director General (DG) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).

More than a hundred teachers and staff began protesting in front of the main building of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Abdul Gani Road in Dhaka after 10:00 am on Wednesday (February 12). They later gathered in front of the building and initiated a sit-in protest.

The Chairman of the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance, Principal Selim Bhuiyan; Secretary General Zakir Hossain; Assistant Secretary General Professor Badarul Islam; Presidium members Principal Kazi Mohammad Mainuddin, Principal Mosharaf Hossain Liton, Professor Abdul Awal; Joint General Secretary Professor Abdul Hakim; and teachers and staff from various districts were present at the protest.

The teachers have demanded the immediate removal of the Director General, stating that they had issued an ultimatum until Tuesday. However, the Ministry of Education has not yet removed him from his position. They have warned that if he is not removed from the DG post without delay, they will take stronger actions. Furthermore, the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance has called for the removal of Dr. Zulfikar Haider from his role as Director General of the National Academy for Education Management (NAEM).

Earlier, on Thursday (February 6), the teachers laid siege to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, issuing an ultimatum for the removal of the DG by February 10.
